Hi, I’m Melaina! I help ambitious, high-performing women who struggle with exhaustion, brain fog, hot flashes, night sweats, and weight gain, get back to feeling happy, energetic, and vibrant, without fad diets, medication, or hormone replacement therapy.
I have lived and breathed nutrition and fitness for over 15 years, which served me well up until about the time I turned 39. It seemed like out of nowhere I was suddenly exhausted and moody all the time, my skin and hair became dry and lifeless, I had hot flashes and night sweats, my digestion was off, I couldn’t sleep through the night, and I started to gain weight – even while I was training 4-hours per day for an Ironman.
All the effort I was putting in just wasn’t enough to keep me at my “happy place” anymore. It was frustrating, to say the least. I even talked with my doctor about what was happening and she said it was common for women my age to feel this way. I was given two choices, just deal with it or I could try hormone replacement therapy to see if that would help. Wait! What? Hormone replacement therapy!?! Why would I need hormone replacement therapy? I was only 39 years old and I was living a super healthy lifestyle. Or so I thought…
I couldn’t accept that this was going to be my new normal (for who knows how long). There just had to be a better way to get back to feeling like myself again.
This was the catalyst that brought me back to school to study functional medicine. To make a long story short, as it turns out, not only was I going through perimenopause but I also discovered that so much of what I was doing, in the pursuit of health, was actually causing hormonal imbalances within my body and making me feel like crap.
Over the past 5+ years, I figured out what I needed to do to support my body so I could go from barely surviving to fully thriving during peri-menopause (and beyond). It is now my mission and passion to share what I know so you don’t have to suffer like I did. If I can do it, you can too!
